Changes to appointments outside normal working hours

Mon 03rd October 2022

From 1 October GP practices in South Tyneside are making some changes to appointments offered outside normal working hours.

The changes, which come as part of a national programme, will see South Tyneside practices offer a combined 650 appointments every week in evenings and weekends (a 30% increase). These are in addition to regular daytime appointments available from your own GP practice.

There will be more appointments with a wider range of health professionals, including practice nurses, social prescribers, musculoskeletal specialists, pharmacists and podiatrists as well as GPs.

Additional appointments will initially be focused on the most popular times like Saturdays and weekday evenings, but this will be reviewed over the coming months.

You can book appointments through the practice in the usual way, but sometimes you may be asked to attend a different practice depending on availability.

If you have any questions about the new arrangements, please speak with a member of the practice team.
